Barrow & Trent Shipping India Pvt Ltd is committed to operating in full compliance with the Merchant Shipping (Recruitment and Placement of Seafarers) Rules, 2016, as amended, and the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006.

The Company maintains a transparent, ethical, and compliant recruitment system to safeguard the rights and welfare of seafarers.

Barrow & Trent Shipping India Pvt Ltd does not charge any recruitment or placement fees from seafarers.

1. No Fees & Cost Transparency Policy

Barrow & Trent Shipping India Pvt Ltd does not, directly or indirectly, charge any recruitment or placement fees from seafarers.

Seafarers are not required to pay for employment opportunities. Only permitted expenses such as obtaining passports, Continuous Discharge Certificates (CDC), and medical certificates may be borne by the seafarer, as per applicable regulations.

All cost-related information is communicated clearly and transparently.

2. Complaint Handling & Grievance Redressal Policy

The Company maintains a structured system to receive, record, investigate, and respond to complaints from seafarers.

All complaints are handled in a timely and fair manner. If a complaint remains unresolved, it may be escalated to the Directorate General of Shipping.

3. Seafarer Data Protection & Privacy Policy

The Company maintains full confidentiality of seafarer’s personal and professional data.

All data is securely stored in both digital and physical formats and is accessed only by authorized personnel. The Company ensures that data is used solely for recruitment and placement purposes and is protected from unauthorized access.

4. Seafarer Protection, Insurance & MLC Compliance Policy

The Company verifies that shipowners comply with the requirements of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006.

Seafarers are informed about their rights, including:

  • Repatriation rights under MLC Regulation 2.5
  • Compensation in case of death or disability under MLC Regulation 4.2

The Company ensures that valid insurance and financial security are in place before deployment. However, the responsibility for providing such coverage lies with the shipowner.

5. Pre-Joining Briefing & Seafarer Awareness Policy

All seafarers are provided with pre-joining briefings prior to deployment.

This includes:

  • Terms and conditions of employment
  • Shipowner details
  • Vessel type and trading pattern
  • Insurance coverage and rights under MLC
  • Safety and operational expectations

Seafarers are given sufficient time to review their employment agreements before signing.
